Frequent questions about Tiki respiratory mask

Here we have listed and answered the most frequent questions about the Tiki respiratory mask.

1. How much does a complete Tiki mask weigh?

Small 430g, Medium 440g, Large 450g.

2. How is the positive pressure in the mask created?

Through a fan, the airflow speed is adjusted, based on the user’s breathing curve. This individual adjustment leads to the longer battery and use time, and to lower consumption of filters.

3. What’s the mask made of?

The actual mask is made of PET-G and TPE plastics.

4. What’s the filter made of?

ABS plastics and HEPA glass fiber media.

5. What does the filter protect against?

All kinds of particulate pollution (P3). For instance quartz dust, asbestos, or bacteria.

6. How often do you need to change the filter?

Tiki Safety recommends changing filter/s a minimum of once every two months in a normal hospital environment, or earlier pending local guidelines on specific contaminant requirements or environmental requirements.

N.B. Filter recommendations are solely based on standard mechanical wear of the filter and is not based on environmental effects, contaminants or any other element that may affect filter lifetime or user safety. An individual judgement should always be made by the user or a qualified individual on how, when and under what circumstances a filter should be either used or changed. Tiki Safety does not accept any responsibility for individual workplace recommendations and user requirements, always comply to local workplace protocols.

7. How often does the mask need changing?

Just like with the filter, it depends on the working environment and the degree of wear and tear. If the mask is damaged or scratched, it should be changed. Please contact us for more information.

8. How long is the battery time?

Up to 2.5 hours with the built-in battery, and up to 10 hours with the external battery (accessory).

9. What kind of battery is it?

LiPo (lithium polymer)

10. Is long-time storage suitable for Tiki?

Yes. Thanks to LiPo batteries’ superior capacity, the mask can be stored for a long time for purposes of military readiness, for instance. Please contact us about how you best maintenance charge your batteries. Tiki doesn’t take up a lot of room: several hundred masks can be stored in a one-cubic-meter space.

11. How is the battery charged?

Either with the complimentary battery charger for the mains (220/110V). Or with a 12V charger (accessory) that fits into the socket of a car cigarette lighter.

12. What kind of lighting is used?

Two LED lamps (8.5 lumens each)

13. What is the mask’s kind of warning system?

Tiki has three built-in warning systems:
1) When the particle filter needs changing or is clogged.
2) When the battery is running low and needs charging.
3) If the mask isn’t airtight/leaks.

14. Where does the manufacturing of Tiki take place?

At our facility at Tiki Safety AB, in Upplands Bro, outside Stockholm, Sweden.

15. Where can I find technical specifications?

In the instruction manual which you can find and download here.

16. What size mask should I choose?

The mask comes in three sizes – Small, Medium, and Large. To find out what size is right for you, please consult the Tiki size guide.

17. Why does the fan sound so much?

The probable cause is that the mask is leaking and not fitted correctly. The fan keeps an overpressure in the mask to keep the surrounding polluted air outside. If the fan is speeding it’s a sign that you’ll have to fit the mask better. Maybe you have the wrong size mask or the straps are not tightened enough. To find out what size is right for you, please consult the Tiki size guide.

18. Do I have to wait for the charging unit to charge the mask?

Technically it is the battery inside the blower that needs to be charged. If you are a team and can switch the blowers between you it is easy to take off the filter and pull out the blower and put in a charged blower, put back the filter (if it is okay to use again, that depends on circumstances) and you are ready to go again. If you are on your own and only have one blower you will have to wait until the blower is fully charged again.

There is a powerful battery as an accessory. It will work for at least 8 hours on one full charging.

19. How do I charge the internal battery in the blower?

Remove the screw seal on the left side of the mask. Make sure to store the removed screw seal in a safe place.

Attach the charger and charge until the indicator light on the charger turns green. Make sure to remove the charger when the battery is full.
